Hughes was one of DBE’s first clients many years ago, so when Niki Fielding reconnected to tell me she was testing a new service for business owners, I was skeptical, but willing to give it a try. I wasn’t sure how a session would work in which she, as the Owlthena listener, mostly sat quietly, attentively listening, while I “talked out loud” to her with the goal of working through a business challenge I was having. But because I trust Niki and wanted to help her out, I gave it a try. I have to say, I was really surprised at how quickly we were able to move from me starting to talk about the problem to being able to clearly articulate it and then move through it to resolution, with her asking simple questions to help me challenge my own thinking and to quickly get over or around some of the things that were in my own way. Even though it’s a one-off service with no ongoing commitment required, I am going to be an Owlthena client when the service launches because I have to say, I did get the clarity I needed and I don’t think I would have got that without this innovative approach. It’s less expensive than committing to ongoing coaching and, for me, having an ad hoc resource I can trust to provide me the time and space to think through an issue is invaluable.
