Q: Why is the service named Owlthena?

A: Athena is the Greek goddess of war and wisdom, and the owl is one of her symbols. Niki has always loved owls and when we saw that almost every variation of the name Athena was taken, we thought we’d combine “Owl” and “Athena” to get “Owlthena.” It takes some practice to say it but eventually it just rolls off the tongue. 

Q: When would an Owlthena session be a good idea?

A: When you have something weighing on your mind and you need a quiet time/place with someone who really understands business to let you talk it out. It could be an employee challenge, a client opportunity, a decision that will affect a few stakeholders differently than the rest, etc. The single-session, one-hour, self-solving approach is designed for those times you suspect you know the answer(s), you just want to check yourself, your impressions, your attitudes, etc. with someone who gets it, who understands.

Q: If I don’t have employees, can I still use Owlthena?

A: Yes, Owlthena is for anyone who experiences the challenges of business ownership, whether they are running a company of with thousands of employees or they are the only one. Ownership has unique challenges, and the Owlthena expert listeners are here to help you talk through what’s on your mind.

Q: What makes Niki qualified as an expert listener?

A: She’s been listening to and advising other business people formally and informally for over 30 years, with 20 of them at the helm of various consulting businesses. Over that time, clients and associates have shared repeatedly that talking with her makes them feel better because she really listens to them and doesn’t try to hijack the conversation to make it about her. Of course, as a successful consultant she’s got lots of ideas and opinions, but says she’s found it best if she waits for someone to ask her what she’s thinking. She says she finds her thinking is much better when she’s sure she’s listened carefully first. So, net/net, she’s been consistently and successfully helping business owners and other executives for over 30 years, loves helping them succeed, has a wealth of knowledge, and as an entrepreneur, she thrives on the opportunities pioneering in this emerging field presents. How’s that?

Q: Is Niki a certified therapist, business coach, or attorney?

A: Nope, none of the above. Our team respects those professionals immensely and refers our clients to them when we think they will provide help we cannot. The Owlthena concept is designed to be an ad hoc solution for when you really just need to talk something through with someone who understands business, who gets what you’re talking about, and who won’t feel compelled to interject unsolicited opinions. This unique service provides you the freedom to talk about what’s on your mind, to hear yourself speaking (this is key), and to find the solution through the combination of hearing your own voice and knowing it’s being listened to by you and another knowledgeable listener.

Q: How Much Time Do I Need to Dedicate to Having an Owlthena Session?

AThe session is 60 minutes and it takes about 15 minutes to read through the agreement forms, make your online payment, and schedule your appointment. After the session we’ll request feedback in the form of a survey but you are under no obligation to take the survey. (We’d super appreciate the feedback because Owlthena is new and we want to keep improving the experience.)

Q: What if I don’t like my session, can I get my money back?

ASo far Owlthena has worked as expected for everyone who’s gone through the process and it’s a leap of faith for both of us; you that your time and money will be well spent and us because we are going for 100% satisfaction from every client. Booking the time for your session means Niki is focused on you and nothing else, including our other clients, for that hour. This is why there is no commitment beyond one session. That said, if it really fails to work for you, we can talk about it– we don’t want to charge someone if the session doesn’t deliver, and if we learn something to make the process better for the next person, we may consider waiving your fee. Sound reasonable?

Q: What if I can’t make it to my session? What if I need to cancel at the last minute? Can I get my money back?

A: If you cancel outside of the 24-hours ahead of your session, e.g. if we’re scheduled to talk at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and you cancel by 3:59 on Thursday then yes, absolutely, you can get your money back. If you need to cancel within the 24-hour window, e.g., you reach out at 7:00 a.m. to say you cannot make the 4:00 appointment later that day, if we can schedule someone else in your time slot, we’ll refund your money; if we cannot schedule someone else in that slot, we need to charge you for the appointment.

Q: Can I purchase multiple appointments at a discount?

A: The business model for Owlthena is to make the sessions as easy to schedule as possible without requiring a commitment for multiple sessions. If after your first session you want to schedule more sessions, we can talk about a discounted plan. This is a new service so let’s experiment together.
